Founded by Jason Rae, True Compass Strategies brings a practical, real-world approach to helping organizations navigate growth, change, leadership, and complexity. The work is grounded in more than 20 years of experience leading organizations, serving on boards, facilitating retreats, and helping teams ask better questions, make clearer decisions, and focus on what matters most.
About Jason Rae, Founder & MANAGING DIRECTOR
Jason Rae is the founder and managing director of True Compass Strategies. He has spent his career working in and alongside nonprofit organizations, membership associations, civic institutions, campaigns, and community-based organizations.
Jason currently serves as President & CEO of the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce, where he has helped grow and strengthen a statewide network of LGBTQ+ and allied businesses. His work includes organizational leadership, board engagement, membership strategy, strategic planning, corporate partnerships, program development, and statewide advocacy.
He also brings extensive board and governance experience. Jason has served on about a dozen boards and has worked with boards and leadership teams on retreats, planning sessions, governance conversations, and organizational strategy. His approach is practical, candid, and focused on helping organizations move from good conversation to meaningful action.
Jason’s experience also includes public affairs, coalition building, policy, and political leadership. He has worked with hundreds of clients through Nation Consulting, served as a member of the Democratic National Committee, and held national leadership roles within the party.
Across all of his work, Jason is especially passionate about helping nonprofit leaders and board members better understand their roles, ask stronger questions, build healthier systems, and make decisions that strengthen the organization for the long term.
Jason graduated from Marquette University with an Honors Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History and from Drexel University with his Masters of Business Administration. He lives in the Milwaukee area with his husband, Phillip Bailey.
